Irene Holmgren
My work responds to social and cultural issues. Born to Cuban parents who suffered greatly as a result of a brutal regime,my art emerges as both a response and a reckoning. It is often spontaneous, seeking clarity and harmony from chaos through expressions of color, light and form. Driven by an unrestrained urge to confront injustice, I often begin with a poem and ultimately surrender to a visual manifestation, using strong imagery to create emotional and visual resonance.
I hold a double bachelors degree from Queens College in writing, art and education. I also studied at the Parson school of Design in New York City. I am an Interior Designer and founder of Priceless Kitchens LLC where I draw on my professional skills. The study of color, drafting elevations and building plans inform my Artistic practice.
